The Authentic Go-to Person for Healthy Living at Home, at Work and On-the-Go (Photo Credit: Jennifer Moriarty) |
Meet Ellie: Ellie Savoy is a Board Certified Holistic Health Coach and the author of the #1 international bestselling book Stop Dieting Start Living: 5 Foundations for Your Health to Permanently Lose Weight Without Dieting Starvation or Suffering in Silence. She is also the founder of the Stop Dieting Start Living Weight Loss System. Her commonsense and step-by-step approach has literally transformed the way people look at their bodies, health and life.
Ellie spent over two decades under a great deal of stress. She lost sight of the importance of her health - time and time again - gaining weight and yo-yo dieting to take care of it, skipping meals during the day, eating too late at night, and letting work dictate how all of her time was spent. She then experienced several triggers that caused her to reconsider her life’s trajectory. She lost both her mother and father within a 21 month period. Then, in 2011, she was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. The grief she experienced, coupled with decisions she had to make about her health, caused her to think more deeply about what was truly important. She decided that she wanted to explore a holistic and natural approach to dealing with her health issues. This would include permanent lifestyle changes. So, she began living a diet-free and healthier life. Today she feels better both inside and out. Ellie’s approach is for anyone who wants to take control of her health and future. She has helped women with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, thyroid imbalance, irritable bowel syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and a host of other symptoms. |

Feedback from one of Ellie's clients: "I am deeply grateful to my employer for providing one-on-one coaching with Ellie Savoy during an eight-week program. It has completely transformed my life into a new beginning for myself, my kids, and my family. Ellie knows how to get to the heart of the matter. She provided a safe space where I could open up, which resulted in shedding heavy emotional weight that had been preventing physical weight loss. I have gained so much self-confidence. These eight weeks are the best thing that has ever happened to me."
Myrna Haskell, managing editor, talked with Ellie about her business goals, how she has personally taken control of her health, and why she chose to help others make positive lifestyle changes.
What was the inspiration behind writing Stop Dieting Start Living?
I wrote the book before I started my programs. A major catalyst for change was when I found out I had uterine fibroids. I could choose to have surgery, or I could do nothing. I didn’t consider either of these viable options for me, so I decided to take a natural, homeopathic approach. I was determined that I wasn’t going to go 100 miles an hour anymore and that I wasn’t going to make excuses for my health. Something shifted. The fibroids shrunk, and I became completely invested in my lifestyle changes. I started to notice that so many others had the same issue. I especially wanted to help other women our age – those who think they’re stuck in an unwell body. I wanted to ignite the same spark that I had, so that others would become as passionate about their health as I became. |

You live what you teach. Can you elaborate?
I’ve been interested in health for a very long time; however, I was in and out of it. It was a reactive, instead of a proactive approach. For me, if I’m teaching something, I better be living it. Authenticity is key. We have too many carrots dangling these days for miracle cures to our problems. Often, these quick fixes are a load of rubbish, and they pray on the weak. But many keep chasing the quick fix. You need to ask yourself, ‘Who cares about being thin if I’m not healthy?’
I’ve incorporated de-stressors throughout my day – every day. I unplug, I stretch, and take mental time-outs. You shouldn’t sit at the computer all day either. Sitting all day has become an enormous health risk, and so many of us are doing it. Sitting is the new smoking. It can kill you.
How does it make you feel when you are able to help others lead healthier lifestyles and focus on what’s important, rather than hating on themselves?
It brings me to tears. This is not just my work, it’s my passion. When someone else realizes a profound change, it helps me at my core. I feel like I serve as a bridge for others to get to that place of feeling well. I help people tune into their own bodies. It’s not the same cookie-cutter program for everyone. The reason people don’t get started is because they feel it’s too big of a mountain to climb, and then it just builds on itself.
I can’t just ‘fix’ someone, so in addition to helping people implement lifestyle changes, I also work as an inspirer, a supporter, a cheerleader. Really…if we’re not passionate about something, it doesn’t matter. For instance, if you’re excited and invested in taking your boat out on the river each weekend, you’ll find the time to go. It’s all about being passionate…about feeling good. And that spark needs to come from within.
Tell me a bit about your new corporate wellness services.
Today, it’s increasingly more important for an employer to realize that they need to be invested in their staff members’ well-being and to provide a culture of wellness in order to be more productive. Wellness programs reduce absenteeism, work-related job injuries and disability costs while increasing employee productivity, morale and engagement.
We don’t live in a 9 to 5 world anymore. There are no boundaries. You can reach anyone at any time. People wake up to problems at work these days. There is a constant ON. ‘Work-life balance’ has become ‘work-life integration.’ It’s important to understand that even small adjustments in lifestyle choices can have a huge impact on a person’s overall well-being – both at work and at home.
I work in a variety of ways with businesses and non-profits. I conduct everything from 1:1 coaching programs to large group programs, virtual training, webinars, and live events to help companies establish their wellness vision and strategy. I make it fun and engaging. It’s not a lecture. After-all, if it was purely information we needed, more people would be feeling healthier. Participants walk away with at least three things from each session that they can easily and immediately implement to start feeling better quickly.
Any future goals for your company and services?
I’m on a mission to awaken people. I want to reach as many people as possible, so I’ve created online programs and livestreams so that anyone can contact me.
If you were to give one suggestion to everyone reading this…something to change their mindset or outlook on life…what would that be?
It starts with a decision to make yourself a priority. It’s a journey, not a destination. Take one step at a time.
Ellie's response to #WheresYourSanctuary:
Regular quiet time alone and unplugged, listening to nature, chilling out and not being on the clock, in my home unwinding with my honey, listening to music, dancing, being helpful and useful to others, taking care of myself. There could be more!
