High Five Your Spirit Guides

When it comes to spirit guides, I think of it as each of us coming into this life with our own cosmic superhero team assigned at birth. Not the cape-wearing, spandex kind, although honestly, if that visual helps, run with it. These spirit guides don’t have bodies or form. They’re pure energy, but not the vague, hard-to-grasp “floaty” kind. Think of them as the energetic equivalent of the best support squad you’ve ever had. Like superheroes, they can do things we can’t. Fly, slip through walls, multitask without caffeine, appear everywhere at once, all without breaking a sweat. They’re always with us. Sometimes it’s only one. Sometimes there’s a whole crew. They tap in and out depending on what we are facing, the same way specialists step in on a team when their skill is needed.
Their purpose? Our greater good, our higher path, and our growth. Their main job is to nudge us toward alignment and help us get what we really want. Best of all, they never, ever get angry, frustrated, or disappointed in us. Spirit guides don’t judge. They don’t roll their eyes when you make a questionable life choice. They follow us into every situation, even the ones where the soundtrack probably should’ve warned us, “Girl... don’t do it.” They don’t lie. They don’t manipulate. They don’t lead us astray. Their entire operating system runs on positivity, truth, clarity, and support.
For most of my life, my spirit guides weren’t “beings.” They were more of a feeling, a nudge, a wave of comfort, or a quiet emotional presence that didn’t come with a face or a voice. They were similar to trying to describe love. Not the actions of love, just the essence of it. That’s what spirit guides feel like: something that simply is. In the last year, though, they’ve come forward in a more recognizable way. A little more distinct, and a little more interactive. These days, you guessed it, I can even high-five them, which I know isn’t everyone’s experience, but that’s the thing. Spirit guides will meet you in whatever way you naturally connect. They don’t need you to see them a certain way. They’ll show up in the form, feeling, or personality that feels right to you. Because at their core, spirit guides are exactly the supportive, non-judgmental energy you need to walk beside you, no matter what paths you take.
Spirit guides tend to use a sliding scale of communication. Think of it as low-volume to blowhorn. Subtle signs are the feather-light nudges. The ones you can easily talk yourself out of. They can be a thought that pops into your mind “out of nowhere.” A feeling of yes or no with no logical reason attached. Maybe a soft, energetic pull toward something such as a person, a place, a book, or an idea. A common one is seeing something once or twice that feels a little off, but familiar.
Subtle signs are your spirit guides trying to get your attention without interrupting your day. They feel natural, almost woven into your own thoughts. They don’t demand, they invite. These are the signs people dismiss the most because they’re quiet enough to blend into the noise, but subtle doesn’t mean weak. Subtle signs are often your spirit guides at their wisest, when they are especially gentle, steady, and allowing you to choose.
Obvious signs are the ones that feel as if your spirit guides went from whispering to waving a flare. They are a symbol or number pattern repeating so often that it borders on comedy. A song showing up at exactly the right moment, often multiple times. A “coincidence” that is frankly too on-the-nose to be random. A message in a book, on a billboard, a license plate, or even a social media post delivered with perfect timing. You think of someone, and they immediately call or text. Something happens moments after you ask for guidance.
Obvious signs feel personal, targeted, and often a little ridiculous, but in the best way. These are the signs designed to stop you in your tracks and make you go, “Okay... that cannot be a coincidence.”
Let’s take a time-out and help you build some awareness. Not by forcing signs to appear, but by noticing the ones already weaving through your day.
Step 1: Look Back Before You Look Forward
Think of the last week or two. Don’t overthink it. Write down three moments that made you pause even a little bit. It could be anything. Maybe a number that kept popping up, or a random object you found, or a conversation you overheard. It could be an animal encounter that felt strangely significant. Don’t judge them. Just capture them.
Step 2: Notice the Pattern
Look at your three moments and ask yourself what feeling came from them. Was it comfort? Curiosity? Reassurance? A sense of “that’s weird”? Spirit guides speak through emotions as much as symbols. Circle the one that gave you the strongest internal “ping.”
Step 3: Ask the Key Question
For the circled moment, finish this sentence: “This got my attention because...” Don’t aim for perfection. Aim for honesty. Often the meaning reveals itself through the simplest observation.
What you did was train your awareness to recognize the difference between noise and nudges, and here’s the beautiful truth. If you can spot three of these moments from your past week, you can absolutely spot them as they happen going forward. You’re not creating anything out of thin air. You’re simply tuning into what’s been whispering to you all along. Trust what stood out, trust what you felt, and trust that this is the beginning of a much clearer conversation with your spirit guides.
