Myrna Haskell, managing editor, talked with Lorraine about her career path, her healing philosophy and the various services she offers clients.
Tell me about your nursing background and how this led you to founding Healing Path for Health.

I’ve been a nurse for over 40 years, so I’ve got an extensive background in traditional medicine. The first eight years, I worked in a hospital setting. After that, I worked in a corporate setting in sales and marketing for product and service-based businesses in the medical industry. The last 20 years, I worked in the pharmaceutical sector in compliance and pharmacovigilance. I was involved with overseeing and developing corporate training as well.

In 2007, I contracted Lyme disease. I was treated with intravenous antibiotics for seven weeks and then with oral antibiotics. I still didn’t feel well, so I started to research natural treatments and alternative therapies. I think of myself as a perpetual student. I immersed myself in learning about healing and different treatments that were energy-based. Western medicine is not always the best treatment. I found that the additional treatments I was utilizing, such as Reiki, acupuncture, reflexology, and different massage therapies were helping me on my way to recovery. I realized that I finally understood what I was feeling inside – I was connecting the dots. I know that I couldn’t have been cured with just medication, and this led me to wanting to share this knowledge and help others heal.

In your opinion, why does a holistic approach to healing work so well?

Integrative wellness, which includes all aspects of lifestyle, is the way to go. It makes use of conventional and alternative therapies. I believe in a more holistic, organic and intuitive approach to healing. It’s not only about taking a pill. You need to look at the whole person and start with her internal compass, so I first concentrate on finding out who my client is and what’s going on in her life.

For instance, stress can present with headaches, loss of cognitive ability, lack of focus, spiked blood pressure, insomnia and other symptoms. The key is to find out what’s feeding the stress, not to simply treat the symptoms. What is happening emotionally with the person? What are the triggers? Our physical and mental health are intricately connected.

What is your philosophy as a healer?

I want to help clients move beyond disease and become a whole person – connected in body, mind and spirit. Unfortunately, there are many people who don’t prioritize their health. It’s the last thing they think about. In order to improve health, the client ultimately needs to take the ball and run with it. Clients need to be invested in the healing process and take each step seriously. My success stories have been clients who have focused their energy on getting better.

You start potential clients with a consultation. Do you guide clients to the therapy that will work the best for them, or do most clients seek certain therapies?

It happens both ways. I’d say about 60% of those I work with know what they want or just want to try a particular therapy to see if it works for them. The rest are looking for guidance. When I do a consultation, we discuss everything that’s going – we move beyond the aches and pains and into the source of the illness. You must address the root cause. I experience an intuitive connection with clients – a distinct feeling about which way to go.

Could you explain medical intuitive healing?

It accesses mind and body connections and retrieves hidden aspects of a medical problem that typical medical tests don’t necessarily discover. I tell my clients that I cannot make a medical diagnosis, but I can peel back the layers. It’s like peeling an onion to discover the spiritual, physical and emotional aspects of a person’s condition. It’s a process that encourages a person’s energies to shift and change so that the healing process can begin – it’s very fluid. A medical intuitive guides a person to her healing. It leaves someone with a feeling of hope and empowerment and a path to begin healing.

I haven’t heard of this. What is raindrop treatment?

It was adopted by D. Gary Young and draws from Native American wellness traditions that encourage a sense of balance and harmony. It involves a combination of massage techniques and the use of antimicrobial essential oils that are dropped along the spinal column on the client’s back and on the feet. The oils help to fight pathogens that are dormant on the spine. Raindrop treatment helps with scoliosis and chronic back pain. It also helps to strengthen the immune system, reduce inflammation and ease respiratory discomfort. It’s been used as an alternative therapy in the treatment of Lyme disease. The treatment calms the mind and is a rejuvenating experience for most clients.

Where do you find sanctuary? Is it in a place, a person, a hobby…quiet time alone? (#WheresYourSanctuary)

I love to listen to the sounds of the ocean. I don’t live near the ocean, but I enjoy listening to music and sounds that mimic the sound of waves crashing on the beach. This helps me get to my calm space. Really, all soft and relaxing music does this for me. I also enjoy tennis. It’s a great stress reliever.
