Jarry & Korka Fall
|
Jarry Fall is a sophomore at Drew University where she is majoring in computer science and minoring in dance. She has been dancing for sixteen years, and her foundation has grown from the techniques she learned while studying ballet.
Jarry danced at a local studio in Bergenfield, New Jersey where she also practiced a variety of other styles of dance, including jazz, musical theater, modern, hip-hop, and contemporary. This has allowed her to become the well-rounded performer that she is today. Ballet performances include The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Le Jardin, and Peter and the Wolf. Musical theater performances include West Side Story, An American in Paris, Chicago, A Chorus Line, and Cabaret. Future plans... Jarry wants to be an entrepreneur one day and to open a dance studio in Africa. She says, "Dance will always be a part of my life, and I want to be able to share my love for it with others!" |

Future plans…
I plan to open a dance studio in Cameroon and Senegal to share my love of dance with children in Africa. Korka shares, "Dance has helped me to develop self-discipline, and I want to instill that in other young people."

Please tell us about a memorable performance.
Jarry...
When my twin sister, Korka, and I danced our first duet together in The Nutcracker. We were the Columbine Dolls at age 13; it was so cute because we’re twins, so we looked alike and danced alike! The audience loved us so much - whenever our duet ended, applause would shake the theater!
Korka...
A memorable performance for me would be Paquita. It was the first time that I got to perform with a tutu, and this was a big accomplishment for me. I always dreamed of dancing on stage with a tutu, so when the time finally came, I was more than happy.
Do you have a favorite dancer?
Jarry...
My favorite dancers are Misty Copeland and Michaela DePrince because they are two prominent African American ballerinas. I love them both so much and both of their stories are so inspiring. Being able to look up to such strong women, those who have as much love and passion for dance as I do, gives me hope that the future of ballet will soon be diverse in many companies.
Korka...
Michaela DePrince and Misty Copeland have always been two strong and beautiful black dancers that I’ve looked up to. Growing up, I didn’t see many women of color on the big screen or in magazines, so it was hard to believe that dance was inclusive. These two women have changed the face of dance - not only for me - but for other dancers of color.
