NITA STEKETEE: Sculptured Jewelry Artist and Painter
Nita Steketee was born in Utrecht, The Netherlands and lived in Breukelen aan de Vecht as a child. She loved art from a very young age and started to express herself through painting, drawing, sculpting, writing, dancing and playing the piano. Steketee graduated cum laude with a master’s degree in graphic design and art from Holland’s Academy of Fine Arts (St. Joost).
Nita moved to Amsterdam after accepting a job with Total Design, one of Europe’s best-known Graphic Design companies. Eventually she started her own Art and Graphic Design firm, RoyalDox (Royal Dogs), and quietly gained a reputation for her fresh, surprising approach.
In 2003 Steketee came to the United States. She planned to spend six months, but she realized that she loved the artistic freedom and diversity she found in the U.S. She settled in the Hudson Valley Region of NY.
She began making sculptured jewelry and was chosen to show her work at Julie Artisans, a highly regarded NYC gallery on Madison Avenue. Nita’s work continues to be shown at Julie Artisans and at The Chelsea, where her paintings are included in the permanent collection. Her work has also been displayed in several other galleries in New York City, throughout the Hudson Valley Region in New York and in several galleries in the Netherlands.
Nita is also the owner of YOGAYOGA in Rosendale, NY. She is a certified teacher of yoga and meditation. She teaches all levels of yoga from meditative/restorative classes to more advanced classic yoga. She is also skilled at Javanese dance movement which is controlled, deliberate and serene.
