Poetry, Essays, and Reflections
2017 Writing Contest Honorable Mention
We held our first annual writing contest in 2017.
Writers were asked to send narrative essays or poetry submissions for the following prompts:
"I find my peace...."
"I find my power...."
We received many quality submissions and enjoyed reading all of them. The panel chose the below poem as the winner.
Water is a calming influence for many, and the poem below describes its visual and aural hypnosis extremely well.
Submission responds to "I find my peace...."
I find my peace in...

I find my peace in…
A river’s ceaseless susurrus
Flow in frieze marmoreal
Jeweled visage swirling succumbs
Pooling in pupils an elixir
Ephemeral thoughts ethereal
Evanescent as the crease in
Fortune’s palm, her augury useless
Fading ivory chamomile
Silver thread that weaves and comes
Sliding through Nyx’s air
Her ruffled reflection surreal
Murmurs from muted calliope
A calming carnival cynosure
Soothing as sound’s washing slope
Orchestra in wave’s miniature
And in glimmering infinity
Whirling eddies grand simplicity
Liquid’s quelling tranquility
Fluid hand’s felicity
I find my place in
I find my peace in
