"I’m very comfortable and grateful for the way things turned out in my life. Perhaps in terms of my music, I could have studied piano and learned the basics of composition. I know about this stuff, but this would have really helped me with reading music and understanding the form of the music. If I had done that, it may have been the thing that kept me playing music. On the other hand, I am so glad that I didn’t stay in music my whole life. I wouldn’t trade my career in the movie industry for the world, because I wouldn’t have experienced the things I did. As it turned out, I wound up with the best of both worlds."

"Honestly, there really is nothing I would have done differently. The way I arrived to where I am now was through an unusual, albeit painful, set of circumstances. If one did not happen, the other one would not exist. You take the good with the bad and make the best of what you are given."

"When I look back, I wish it were possible never to compare myself to others. Even though I've had some good fortune, being a writer has sometimes been a lonely road – one where it’s easy to feel left behind. I’ve learned that success can mean very different things, and the roads to it are different for everyone. Comparing myself to people I considered successful, or those who seemed to be moving faster towards their goals, never brought me anything but misleading and unnecessary despair, a waste of valuable time that could have been spent working and appreciating what I did have. I try to remind myself of this every day."
