2017 FOCUS ON YOUTH
SANCTUARY wants to help young women with promising, future careers to gain exposure and to be able to share their passions with a broader community. Each year, we dedicate an issue to young women.

After careful consideration, the SANCTUARY editors have chosen three amazing, young women to feature in our second annual "Focus on Youth" issue. These aspiring artists and community leaders have demonstrated outstanding commitment to their community or craft.

"I have two very important mentors. Of course, they are my parents. Who else could serve as better mentors than your parents? They support me in everything I do. And - YES - my family is also musical. My dad started on the drums and also plays organ and piano. My mom is a singer. They both support me in life as well as my musical pursuits. My paternal grandfather and my maternal grandmother were recording artists. And my aunt, Vernell Scovil, is formerly of the duo Koffee Brown. There's lots of music in my family!

"Claire Bennett was one of my instructors during my time in Nepal and one of the main reasons I became involved with GlobeMed at Tufts. She was a founding member of PHASE Worldwide and has since created PEPY Tours, an educational travel organization. Claire was my introduction to what it truly meant to be a global citizen, and encouraged me to go into every experience eager and ready to learn from the people around me. She has always been open, caring, and thoughtful, providing insight from her experience while giving me enough space to explore and understand from my own perspective in my own time. Claire has been an invaluable mentor, and I am so grateful for her knowledge and friendship."
