Did you always want to run your own business?
I didn't! When I was out of school, I quickly learned that working for someone else wasn't for me because of my values. It's not about the dollar to me - it's about truly loving what you do and providing an educational experience that will encourage the client to continue to come back. I knew I wasn't going to feel as fulfilled doing that for someone else.
What inspired you to start your business?
The word serendipity is defined ‘the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way’ and that's what becoming an esthetician was to me. This career was not something I had planned, but after almost losing my life due to cardiac arrest at a young age, I knew that if I was going to be given a second chance at life, I was going to spend it doing something I loved. I stumbled on the esthetics school I attended on a Google search and simply fell in love. After that, my sweet serendipity was born.
What do you find the most daunting about being a business owner?
The most daunting part about being a business owner is that there are no set hours. This is a 24/7 job that you don't get to clock out from - and sometimes those days can seem particularly long. I've found that it's most important to balance out the current positives with the negatives on those days. When I'm reminded that I'm making someone feel good about their skin or the treatment they've received, it keeps me moving forward.
What do you find most rewarding about being a business owner?
Making a difference. There is no better feeling than knowing I am making someone feel more confident about themselves through the proper education of skin care. This business is my bread and butter, and I love the fact that I can take pride in my work every day.
