Jillian is a New York City-based human resources professional and freelance writer/editor who enjoys writing in the areas of identity, place, empowerment, and health & wellness. She has always been drawn to creative nonfiction and poetry and has a passion for generating stories. In addition to Sanctuary, her work has been published in New Voices and Spotlight News.
A recent graduate of Hobart and William Smith Colleges with a dual major in English and Writing and Rhetoric, Jillian keeps up with her alma mater by writing for the HWS Update. As an undergraduate, she served as a writing fellow in the Center of Teaching and Learning and was also a part of an editorial acquisitions board for her school’s small press, Seneca Review Books.
Jillian is also passionate about the advocacy of human rights and raising awareness through the power of words. In her spare time, Jillian is reading one of the many books on her shelves, experimenting with different styles of writing, going on a two-mile run (no less, and certainly no more), or finding a reason to bake and then finding a reason to eat what she just baked.
Statement: I was introduced to Sanctuary by my grandmother, author Bette Ann Moskowitz, who was interviewed for the magazine and has since become a friend of Myrna’s. I admired (and still continue to admire) the way Sanctuary really does their research to make known the inspiring and incredible work that women do. I am excited to be part of a team of successful and talented women and to do my part in providing inspiring content.
