Water carved land in Utah
(Photo credit: Lynne Friedman, NY) |
"I find inspiration in natural phenomena and take photographs when I travel out West to stimulate my imagination and creative ideas. I was particularly taken with the flowing lines created on red rock canyons by centuries of water flows and the strong light and dark/light contrast.
"All this is the music of of waters," said John Wesley Powell, 19th century geologist and explorer who led the 1869 Powell Geographic Expedition to the Grand Canyon. This image is one of a series and will be the starting point for a series of oil paintings." ~ Lynne Friedman, NY (Visit Lynne's WEBSITE.)

Jodee's daughter with two Garifuna women: Roatan, Honduras
(Photo credit: Jodee Keller, NY) |
"My favorite culture I learned about while in Honduras is the Garifuna community. The photo to the left is one of my daughter with two native women in the town of Punta Gorda on an island in Roatan, Honduras. The Garifunas are one of about five different cultures on the island. We met the woman on the left while she was selling trinkets at the beach. And then, ironically, we saw her the next day. My daughter really liked her. She had a sing-song kind of way about her. Her mom is to the right. They had delicious food at their restaurant - fresh caught seafood and homemade candy made with coconut and cinnamon." ~ Jodee Keller, NY Note: Garifuna communities along the Caribbean Sea are found mostly in coastal towns and villages in the Central American countries of Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Western China: Wild camels in the road
(Photo credit: Victoria Kane, NY) |
"This photo was taken in western China. The camels were wild, just running on the road. I can't remember the exact name of the lake or mountains, but it was in June. The snow caps give you a sense of the elevation (it was about 80F in the valley). They get most of their water from glacier run off which is disappearing due to climate change." ~ Victoria Kane, NY

"This is my home - my back yard - and a favorite place for adventurous hikers! Looking across Lake Tahoe at the majestic Mount Tallac and the famous T, that is always filled with snow!" ~Kirsten Duane, CA

"Two places in the world provide a soul-nourishing reboot for me.
ANYWHERE in Italy: The moment I land in any airport in any region of Italy, I am home. The first thing I want to do before even leaving the airport is to have a perfect espresso. On one trip that I made alone to study at a language school, the taxi driver started my lezioni (lessons) on the ride from the airport to the hotel. Through my then intermediate Italian, I told him that I loved porchetta alla Romano (Roman Style stuffed, slow-roasted pork loin). He immediately veered off of our route to the best little "porcheterria" - this tiny “joint” served only thinly sliced porchetta. As he pulled to the curb, he said, “Aspetta (wait!), ran in the bottega, and came out with one for me to enjoy on the way to the hotel. One finds this generosity throughout every region of Italy. South Africa: For eating deliciously healthy, I love South Africa – great seafood, farm-fresh meats on the braai, biltong (all-natural beef or kudu jerky) as snacks, and tons of fruits and vegetables. My life partner and I are also with family enjoying special relationships in a relaxed state of mind. The micro-climates and beautiful beaches are the proverbial cherries on the sundae. My soul opens up with a relaxed mind and a little perspective." ~ Laura Pensiero (NY) |
