As a travel professional, Andrea Auger looks forward to having the opportunity to be a part of her clients’ travel memories. She believes there is nothing more lasting and impactful than travel. Andrea’s background and love for travel came together in 2019. After studying broadcasting in college, she landed a job in corporate travel. She wanted to travel more but hadn’t had the opportunity. The corporate world was functional, but not memorable. As a travel advisor, Andrea started as a specialist in Disney vacations, but she has branched out and now offers many options for clients, including cruise vacations, family travel of all kinds, luxury travel, group travel, river cruising, and more. She is certified with CIE Tours in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England, and recently added Iceland and Italy tours. Andrea shares, “When clients call me, I make sure to give them the undivided attention that they truly deserve. I love hearing their excitement concerning a future getaway or one they have already enjoyed. This information helps me to create their next memorable vacation.” |
"I've been looking at flights. They seem very expensive all of a sudden. Any tips for saving money on airfare?" ~ Denise (NC)
Hi Denise,
Oftentimes, you will get better pricing if you book a package together (air, hotel and car), instead of paying for things separately. If you only need airfare, it is typically best to travel on a Tuesday for best pricing. Demand is high and fuel prices also drive the cost of airfare. Be sure to try to book in advance. As your departure date gets closer, the pricing tends to go higher and options become less desirable.
You should also consider alternate airports in your search.
"What is happening with the cruise industry for the end of this year and next? I saw something in the news about another cruise that was cancelled due to workers testing positive for COVID. I understand that the COVID situation is different in various countries throughout the world. Is it safe to schedule something in late '21 or early '22? If yes, which cruise destinations are safest at this point?" ~ Anonymous (FL)
This is a question I frequently hear. It is safe to book a cruise, but I would advise to book a refundable deposit. I also recommend that clients book with Travel Protection. If your cruise is cancelled, you will receive a refund. If you booked a non-refundable option, the cruise line will likely apply that deposit to another cruise with them. With the situation being so fluid, there is no way to say what will sail and which destination will be safest at the end of 2021 and early in 2022.
My advice would be to choose an itinerary you like with a cruise line you prefer, then put down a refundable deposit. A travel advisor is a great asset when booking so that he/she can follow all the protocols and changes on your behalf. Be sure your travel advisor specializes in cruising and ask to see reviews.
"What are the best Disney parks or activities for parents with children ages 16 to 21?" ~ Sanctuary Team
Hi Sanctuary Team,
Disney offers something for the entire family. With groups with older children or adults, the most important factor is to understand the individual interests of the group. If the group has Star Wars fans, I would certainly suggest Galaxy's Edge at Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World or at Disneyland Park in CA (depending on which they prefer to go to). Marvel Campus has opened at California Adventure and is great for Marvel fans of all ages. If a client wants to go to Walt Disney World with older children, I honestly think each park has something to offer the group. Again, I would ask questions about their particular likes as this can vary from group to group. The water parks are a great option, too.
Thrill rides are great for all ages. Incredicoaster at California Adventure (Disneyland) is for thrill-seeking teens and adults - other adrenaline pumping rides include Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain, which are also found at Disney World in Florida.
If the group is looking for an alternative Disney trip for older teens, both Disney Cruise Line and Adventures by Disney are great options. With so many choices, this will come down to individual preferences and desires.
Those who are looking for a tropical climate while still remaining in the United States may consider Aulani, a Disney property in Ko Olina on the Island of Oahu. This is a great destination for all ages.
Working with a Disney Specialist will create the most customized option and the best information on the must-sees at the various Disney properties.
