FOR MARCY
Light is transformative - especially the light that emanates from someone’s spirit. Take my yoga instructor, Marcy. Gorgeous, lively, and absolutely delightful, she turned yoga into something as sweet and delicious as the whipped cream on a sundae, but much more necessary. And that was not easy to do.
The happy, contented feeling I experienced after her classes lingered. I felt pleased that I followed through and showed up, but I also saw that my mood had shifted. I’ve had a few yoga teachers in my limited experience. There was the very French and naturally parfait Dominique. There was reliable Roger who scared me a little with his dark cynicism (Really, a cynical yoga teacher? Who knew?). But my all-time favorite was the angry yoga teacher at a very expensive spa resort. Now, that was different…and scary.
Then, I met Marcy. And every stretch, every smile, every hug that came from her was the real deal. She has the heart and soul of a yoga sprite. A dog-loving, sticker-loving, Disney-loving, chocolate-loving, aroma therapy-loving sprite whose idea of bliss was spending her honeymoon at Disney World (in a hurricane, no less!).
Who could resist her charm, ebullience, and goofy humor? Not me, that’s for sure. I am now and always will be a fan. And I’ll miss her terribly as she heads out on a new adventure far from the noise, traffic, and ridiculous rents of Los Angeles. So to my teacher and all-things-yoga guide, I say, “Be well, be happy, and I wish you Namaste each and every day.”
