SHERRIDEAN SKEETE
Barbados-Based Fine Artist, Art Consultant & Teacher
Sherridean shares her inspirations, her thoughts on how the arts can heal and become part of overall wellness, and her work as a consultant for other artists.
What inspires you?
Art is a form of expression and a story that evokes strong emotions. A connection with God inspires me and overflows into my work. I love to explore nature and important life experiences: birth, death, success, divorce and restoration. I also like to work with spiritual themes, such as hope, joy and peace. My themes and the styles I use are fluid, depending on the inspiration I’m looking for.

How would you describe your style?
I am influenced by surreal, abstract, and expressionist styles and concepts. I have evolved into a more fluid approach to creating art. My style and themes evolve in order to evoke a specific message. I’ve been told by others that my style is bold, bright and inspirational.

Tell us a bit about your art consultancy business and how you encourage and empower other artists on the 'business end' of the fine arts industry.
Since 1991, Next Level Art Coaching & Training for Creatives has been utilized by clients from Barbados, the U.S., England, Dominica and Trinidad. Our services have been essential for encouraging, empowering and monitoring artists’ successes as they pursue creative development (both spiritual and artistic) and essential, managerial skills for entrepreneurs. Our educational services take care of all needs. We pride ourselves on our exceptional customer service — we simply meet artists where they are and facilitate their journey as they desire. So often we hear creatives do not necessarily have business savvy, so I have teamed up with Ultimate Training Consultancy’s director Colleen Robinson-Hunte. Originally based in the UK, her business is now based in Barbados. UTC provides business skills, education and training to keep an artist focused on success and growth. |
